Seattle to Shelton

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step...

Or, in our case, 44 miles, 1500 feet of climbing, a ferry ride, two flat tires, and a torn biking glove.

Arn hasn't had a flat on his mountain bike in 4 years. He hasn't had a flat on his touring bike this year. Today he had two flats. The first one was a complete blow-out - unpatchable - after only 6 miles. The second flat - at 14.5 miles - was patchable (fortunately) as we are now down to 2 spares and the next bike shop is over 100 miles away (Saturday, in Longview). So, we are keeping our fingers crossed that the tubes hold out till then. The hardware stores and Walmart in town have tubes but they are the wrong size (we need 26x1.25-1.5 or so). Their tubes are way too small (smaller diameter) or way to large. Oh well, this adds some excitement to the trip. Pictures of the blowout will appear tomorrow when we won't be sucking the internet through a straw.

Scenery today included views of Hood Canal and Mason Lake.

By far though, the highlight of the day was dinner at Xinh's Clam and Oyster House. Absolutely delicious meal. Deborah is enjoying the Cioppino below, after Arn prepped everything!
